New Nintendo game tops Japan top sellers list
The new Nintendo video game Super Mario Brothers for the Wii has topped sales lists in Japan, becoming the fastest selling Wii game ever seen in the country.

According to figures from Media Create, 934,739 copies of the game were sold in Japan this week alone.

Games Industry noted that this surge of buying could be down to the approaching festive season, as "the main gift-giving season [in Japan] runs several weeks behind that of the West".

Second on the selling list was Phantasy Star Portable 2 for the Sony Playstation, with almost 287,000 copies shifted this week.

Other games which sold well in Japan this week included Samurai Warriors for the Wii, PokePark Wii: Pikachu's Great Adventure for the Wii, Professor Layton and the Spectre's Flute for the DS and Playstation 3 game Assassin's Creed.

Meanwhile, figures from GfK ChartTrack published this week showed that the Nintendo DS is officially the best-selling video games console ever.
