Tourists who love travelling to foreign destinations and sampling the local cuisine could find Japan a great country to visit, it has been noted.
Editor of Food and Travel magazine Charlotte Swift said that Japan is "a mecca for gastronomes" and boasts a wide range of types of cuisine including high-end Michelin-starred cooking to "frantic street stalls".
"The country has an awe-inspiring variety of nature and rich and colourful culture, making it a fascinating destination for all sorts of visitors," she said.
Her comments followed the introduction of the first ever Michelin guides for eateries in
Osaka and
Kyoto in Japan.
In total, seven of the restaurants featured in the guide scooped three Michelin stars - six in
Kyoto and one in
Osaka - the highest number a restaurant can be awarded.
The guide is already on sale in Japan and will be available in Europe as of February next year.
