The sun never sets on the InsideJapan Tours team (well, maybe on Sundays) as we have offices in Bristol (UK), Broomfield, (USA), Brisbane (Australia) and Nagoya (Japan). On this page you can meet the people behind our Japan tours and holidays.

We have a wide range of backgrounds and interests, but you can be sure that the one thing that ties us all together is a love of Japan, Japanese culture and a passionate desire to share that with other people.

From the accounts department, through the travel consultant teams to the tour leaders and guides on the ground, you can rest assured that everything we do is to make sure you have the best possible experience of Japan.

Rob moved to Japan after university and fell in love with hiking...

After graduating from university and without a long-term plan in place, Rob took a risk and headed off to Japan. He had no idea what to expect, yet was curious to live somewhere different, fun and unique - and he found all of that and more!

Coming from the UK with very few mountains (in England at least) he loves hiking and exploring the peaks around Tokyo and the surrounding prefectures. Given Japan’s extensive public transport system, it’s very easy for him to get out to countless mountains and hiking trails without the need for a car! He also enjoys being in a culture with great attention to detail in all things – whether that’s craftsmanship, art or sport.

For Rob, “Japan is a country that’s so varied, whether you're a lover of food, nature, history, technology, or video games, you'll find something you love. And because the Japanese only do things 110%, the quality, attention to detail and craftsmanship of whatever you find will be second to none. Furthermore, because both the traditional and modern are catered for in equal amounts, I find that you can go at 100mph during your time here or take it slow and easy - often both in the same day!”

Relive a favourite moment in Japan...

"I have a real soft spot for Kesennuma, Miyagi prefecture. I lived there for a month and researched the way the city was using community-based tourism to improve the social aspects of the community for my Master's dissertation. I was welcomed by absolutely everyone I spoke to and was invited to local kids programmes planting rice, tours of the fish market and a taiko drumming group.

For a city that has faced so much hardship in the recent past with the 2011 disasters, its people are the friendliest I've met in Japan, so open and welcoming. They have such a positive view of the future and are working seriously hard to realise their plans. Beautiful coastline, great hiking, incredibly fresh seafood, so many community events and the chance to experience a Japanese fishing boat!"
