Insider Experience: Izakaya night
Get the inside track on the Japanese gastropub on a fun-filled night out with one of our "Insiders".
Welcome to the izakaya, Japan's version of the humble public house. These lively restaurants are the preferred after work dinner spots for Japan's legions of salary men. Fun, down-to-earth and affordable, izakaya show a relaxed side to the Japanese, a world apart from the strict etiquette surrounding kaiseki fine dining. And where as traditional Japanese restaurants usually specialise in just one food type, izakaya offer a wide range of hearty Japanese and Asian-Western fusion dishes, washed down with excellent Japanese beer of course. The catch? Izakaya are not always easy to find, often hidden behind dark doors or located several stories up without English signs.
Exclusive to InsideJapan Tours, we can arrange for one of our "Insiders" to take you to our favourite izakaya. As well as translating the menu for you, our English-speaking Insider will explain the dishes you are eating and can give insight into this relatively unknown slice of Japanese culture. With all food and drinks included, this is a fantastic way to get to enjoy the mainstay of the Japanese eating-out experience.
