Sustainable Development at InsideJapan Tours
Here at InsideJapan Tours, we are strongly committed to the ideals of sustainable tourism and strive to play our part in protecting the environment, economy and the cultures of all our destinations and countries where our offices are located.
In order to reduce our carbon impact, we first reduced all of the unnecessary CO2 output we could by using 100% renewable energy in our Bristol office and increasing the number of staff commuting by public and active transport to over 90%.
However, as a travel company, regularly visiting our destinations is absolutely essential to ensure we have the most up-to-date information and can arrange the best possible holidays. Consequently, our carbon footprint is unavoidably high.
Therefore, we are making further efforts to reduce the impact of our carbon emissions by investing in a great project in Cambodia called Hivos which utilises funding from the private sector to provide homes with carbon bio-digesters to produce biogas. This serves the dual function of enabling those in poor or rural communities to produce their own clean, renewable energy source for cooking and lighting and slurry for fertiliser, and at the same time, enables us to offset our carbon footprint and play an active role in mitigating climate change. It also works towards five of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals - (2) Zero Hunger; (3) good health; (7) affordable clean energy (8) work & economic growth; (13) climate action.
Hivos, in partnership with the Cambodian National Biogas Programme (NBP) aims to develop a self-sustaining, market-driven national domestic bio digester sector.
