Hands-on calligraphy
Meet a skilled calligrapher
Shimoyama-san is a skilled calligrapher and you'll have the opportunity to join him for a hands-on ink and brush lesson. There are parallels to be drawn between calligraphy and the tea ceremony: both are spiritual, meditative disciplines. Both art forms are complex, deep traditions, and with your guide on hand to help interpret we hope this afternoon's experience will bring calligraphy alive in a way that is simply not possible for most visitors to Japan.
