With the annual announcement of the latest additions to the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites this month, the spotlight has turned on south-west Japan.
Whilst the newly inscribed island of Okinoshima is off-limits to the public owing to it being considered holy in the Shinto religion, it is possible to explore other heritage sites in the Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyushu Island.
