Shiga Kogen
In a land of fantastic winter sports resorts, Shiga-Kogen stands as one of the very best. One of the world's largest winter resorts there are enough runs here to keep you occupied for a month!
“Twenty-one ski fields, seventy lifts, only one lift pass required! Surely the ultimate winter sports experience in Japan!”
Harry Sargant, Marketing & Agents Manager
With 21 ski fields and over 70 lifts Shiga-Kogen stretches over a vast area of northern Nagano prefecture, and was home to many of the events of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Snowfall here is reliable and plentiful, giving Shiga one of the longest ski seasons in Japan starting in late November and running through until early May. The huge scale of the resort means that there is a huge range of terrain suitable for all abilities from beginner to expert, with long groomed runs, challenging moguls and lots lots more.
Stepping out of your skis or off your board there is plenty to keep you occupied from local bars and restaurants in the Ichinose area to a trip to the hot springs of nearby Yudanaka or the museums of Obuse. Of course back in Shiga there are plenty of hot-springs too; what better way to wind down after a long day on the slopes than in a relaxing outdoor onsen bath with fresh snow falling all around you.
