North American fans of Japanese character Hello Kitty will now be able to take part in a role play game that allows them to live the life of their favourite cat.

Hello Kitty Online was launched to users in the country at the 2009 Penny Arcade Expo, which took place between September 4th and 6th.

The game is the first free-to-play Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) and will allow users to make their own craharacter to live and play in the online world, in which more than 100 Sanrio characters live.

Sanrio said: "Thanks to the innovative social media features of Hello Kitty Online, players are able to share videos, screenshots, blogs and email messages with other players without leaving the game world."

Fans of Hello Kitty can purchase a huge range of specially-themed merchandise adorned with the face of the famous cat, from household items such as kettles and toasters, to fashion jewellery and clothing.
