From the snowy expanses of northern Hokkaido to the mangrove swamps and jungle of subtropical Okinawa, Japan has a huge diversity of nature to offer. Walk along rural paths lined with towering cedars, climb stunning mountain ranges, explore primeval forests and gaze across misty lakes - the possibilities are almost endless.

Though most of Japan's population lives in cities, in the countryside you can still find tiny hamlets and rural communities where life is lived at a much slower pace.
