Japanese embroidery class
Hone your embroidery skills by attending this private class with one of Japan's leading exponents of 'nuido'
Nuido or 'the way of embroidery' is a Japanese art form that dates back over 1,600 years. In its infancy the craft was only used for embellishing items used in religious ceremonies. In time, it took on a more artistic purpose and today embroidery is enjoyed as much for fine silks and elaborate motifs as the meditative skill poured into the hand-spun technique.
For true embroidery enthusiasts, InsideJapan can arrange a private lesson with one of Japan's most recognised embroidery experts. Working exclusively with silk threads and fabric and delicately balancing the use of space in her composition, the artist's designs achieve the sophistication for which the best Japanese art is known.
During the lesson, the artist can provide materials to start you off on a new embroidery project, or you may like to bring along your own work to continue under expert guidance. You can also ask the embroidery expert about her own work which she will be happy to show you
