Mashiko 
Mashiko is a town in the south-eastern part of the Tochigi Prefecture, renowned for its ceramics and featuring over 350 different styles of pottery. A typical pottery craftsman town, there is a lot of emphasis on hands-on creation and local wares. The city is approximately two hours north of Tokyo and is a do-able day trip from Tokyo. Ceramics fairs are held every spring and autumn, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors.
